Keeping the Commandments

Are you following the Commandments of God?

God said:

Exodus 20:3-17
1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Money, self, friends, family, rock stars, movie stars, movies, concerts, statues, images, places, objects, keepsakes, ornaments, holidays, job, vehicle. Nothing should come before God, learning about God, talking to God. Do not get so caught up in this world that you forget God. I had a friend ask me how I have time to study the bible so much with a job, a husband, a mini farm, and three boys, plus all the extra stuff we do. I simply told her, I make time. She said she didn’t have time because of all the time she is expected to spend with family and friends. I tell her, her family and friends have become her God. She, naturally, got offended. But it is truth. She is putting time with them before time with God.

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
Statues for worship, whether Jesus, Mary, saints, angels, demons, devils, etc. Any likeness of these things like tattoos, art, clothing graphics, jewels, etc. This is not only saying do not worship these, it says do not even make them.

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain.
This is not just about cussing. It is about using God’s name in wrong manners. One such way, false prayers. I despise watching a movie or show and they pray to God for someone who doesn’t even exist. Other ways, speaking evil of God, deliberately misquoting God, saying God caused something bad to happen to you or someone else. God didn’t inflict your Aunt Betty with a tumor, ok? Read Job.

4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
This day and age it’s hard to say what day the sabbath is actually meant to be on. Our calendar has been changed, people. This commandment was made so we would remember to take time off from our everyday life for God. If we forget to take a day for God, we forget God. This world has a way of sucking you in. You must make that one on one time for Him. Romans 14:5-6 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

5. Honour thy father and thy mother.
This is pretty straight forward, I think.

6. Thou shalt not kill.
Hate is a form of murder and even if you think about killing someone, you have already committed murder. 1 John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
This means not only the act of sex, but also lust in your heart. Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. This goes for woman looking at men as well. See that sexy celebrity/person? She/He is HOTTT!! That, my friend, is adultery in your heart. Porn, masturbation, thinking of someone else during sex with your spouse, sex before marriage, and, in most cases, even sex after a divorce. Matthew 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

8. Thou shalt not steal.
This is obvious to understand.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Simple, do not lie.

10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
Ever heard the saying, “Keeping up with the Jones’”? Don’t be jealous of what anyone else has. And, don’t want it so bad that you break another commandment to get it.

These Ten Commandments are just as important today as they were before Jesus was born…..

New Testament:

Matthew 22:36-38
Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

Matthew 19:16-21
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Luke 12:15
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

These are the Commandments of God. We are all human and we will sin. God sacrificed His only son for us so we could be forgiven and not destroyed. If, and when, we fall and do sin, repent of it. Ask God for forgiveness and do not do it again. If you continue to have problems ask the Lord to take away the temptations that are causing you to sin. You need to be blameless when the Lord returns. This is why “Once Saved, Always Saved” is not true. If we sin and do not repent, and mean it, we fall for eternity.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jude 1:21-25 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
