Abortion & The Seed

There is much talk nowadays about abortion and when is the point of life in which it is wrong to abort a pregnancy.  Christians know it is wrong to abort at any time but yet, some are being persuaded into the thought that before a certain time during a pregnancy there is no life to kill. I have read on websites where those that claim to be christian say that no where in the bible does it mention that abortions are a sin. As if Thou shalt not kill does not pertain to such. So, let’s just see what the bible really says about abortion.

According to the bible, in not so many words, the seed is the beginning of life.

Plants have seeds.

Genesis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

Mankind, or humans, have seeds.

Genesis 4:25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

Animals have seeds.

Genesis 7:2-3 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.

The covenant between Noah and God was made also with Noah’s seed. His children and their children, and their children’s children. On down the line.

Genesis 9:9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;

Is abortion a sin?

Genesis 38:8-10 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

Onan basically masturbated on the ground instead of allowing his seed, or semen, to enter his brother’s wife. If masturbating and spilling the semen on the ground displeases the Lord, how much more do you think it displeases Him to cease the seed once it has began it’s process.

The seed is life at conception.

Leviticus 12:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.

If a man’s semen spilled, he and everything that it touched is unclean. As with a woman’s menstruation. The same principle applies if someone touched a dead body, they were unclean.

Leviticus 15:16-18 And if any man’s seed of copulation go out from him, then he shall wash all his flesh in water, and be unclean until the even. And every garment, and every skin, whereon is the seed of copulation, shall be washed with water, and be unclean until the even. The woman also with whom man shall lie with seed of copulation, they shall both bathe themselves in water, and be unclean until the even.

God says the sperm and ovum, or egg, are seeds. These seeds grow into children. We are not suppose to offer our children as a sacrifice, or kill the seed.

Leviticus 18:21 And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord.

Our bodies and everything in them do not belong to us.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Who are you to go against God’s plan? Do you chose to say God made a mistake? God gives life just as He can take it away. He can chose to open or close your womb. It was His choice for what ever reason that a seed was conceived. Learn to trust Him.

You might be thinking what do I know. Well, I had a teen pregnancy. I made a choice knowing the consequences. Abortion was never a thought in my mind no matter how scared I was. My daughter is now a grown woman with a little girl of her own. I love them both so much.

Times might be hard and you and your husband didn’t expect another mouth to feed. Trust that God will provide for you because He has a plan for that seed.

A child is sick in the womb and might not make it long enough to go to school if it’s born. That child still has a right to life outside the womb if God has chose it to be so. Ask yourself, are you making a choice to abort this seed because it will not be able to enjoy life as other children, or are you aborting it because you will not have a life you want? Yes, it will be difficult but, trust in God.

Maybe you were raped. The thought of carrying this child disgusts you. You didn’t want children let alone for him to ever touch you. You feel you have been unwantingly burdened. Yes, you have been violated. But that seed growing inside you didn’t ask for it either.

Perhaps carrying a baby to term will endanger your own life. I’d say pray hard and often. God still has a plan. Whether for you or that seed. The miracle of life is not the chemical reaction between the sperm and ovum. The miracle of life is that God chose your seed to be a part of His holy army. No matter how it came about. He chose you. Trust Him.

We are seeds from the very start. Fertilized or not. The seed is the beginning of life.

1 Corinthians 15:38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

It doesn’t matter whether a pregnancy is 1 day or 7 months. It is life. Life that has already begun. Life that Thou shalt not kill.
