The Last Pope

First Created 5/26/2012

St Malachy was the Archbishop of Armagh, to whom were attributed several miracles and a vision of the identity of the last 112 Popes. He was Canonised by Pope Clement III, on July 6, 1199. He was the first Irish saint to be canonised by a pope.

In 1139, Malachy was summoned to Rome by Pope Innocent II. While in Rome, Malachy experienced a vision of future popes, which he recorded as a sequence of cryptic phrases. This manuscript was then deposited in the Roman Archive, and thereafter forgotten about until its rediscovery in 1590 and then published in 1595 by Arnold de Wyon, a Benedictine historian, as part of his book “Lignum Vitae”. The Catholic Encyclopedia, suggest that the prophecy is a late 16th‑century forgery. Some have suggested that it was created by Nostradamus and was credited to Saint Malachy so the purported seer would not be blamed for the destruction of the papacy. Supporters, such as author John Hogue, who wrote a popular book titled “The Last Pope” about the claims, generally argue that even if the author of the prophecies is uncertain, the predictions are still valid.

The Prophecy of the Popes is a list of 112 short phrases (Mottos) in Latin. They describe each of the Roman Catholic popes, beginning with Pope Celestine II and concluding with a pope described in the prophecy as “Peter the Roman”, whose pontificate will end in the destruction of the city of Rome. You can read the list here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes however, it is not complete nor do I believe some of the popes after 1590 are completely accurate in the explanation. Some are vary vague. Upon my further studies I have been able find the corrections and fill in the gaps. It only takes a thorough study to find the answers, which I don’t believe the ones who filled in explanations after 1590 did. Such as Benedict XIV pope number 249, number 93 on Malachy’s list. Animal rurale meaning country animal fits Benedict XIV because he is alleged to have said to the cardinals: “If you wish to elect a saint, choose Gotti; a statesman, Aldrovandi; a donkey, elect me”. If they had studied Pope Benedict XIV they would have spotted this.

The accuracy of this prophecy is astounding and I feel it warrants attention to what is to come. Malachy’s vision of the papal end sounds much like Revelation 17-18. The current pope since 2005 is now over 80 years old with heart problems. He is the 111th pope on this prophecy list. We have one more pope on the list. Will he be “Peter the Roman”? And my question, will he choose Sixtus VI to be his name?
